Sensei Jose Eudes Perez Monteiro, a seasoned practitioner and competitor, discovered his passion for coaching and founded Brazil’s Associacao de Judo Higashi in 1992. With a unique teaching methodology rooted in the traditions of Judo and Jiu jitsu, Higashi grew to include 10 schools nationally. Over the years Sensei Jose has nurtured over 110 students to achieving their black belts with Higashi’s global community growing past 2000+ active members.
In 2018, Sensei Jose started a new chapter with his wife, Sensei Ana, in Canada. After years of teaching and training in a new country, Sensei Jose and Sensei Ana founded Ipê Dojo in 2023. Ipê is named after a tree, native to Brazil, that blooms in multiple colours over all four seasons. It is known to be one of the most durable trees, able to withstand the harshest weather conditions.
Sensei Jose and Sensei Ana continue to oversee Higashi in Brazil, while growing the Ipê community in Canada.
The age you begin your journey is not important. We hope that all our students will train for life – regardless of when they start. We prioritize taking the utmost care of all our students to ensure a safe training environment. Judo and Jiu jitsu are full contact, so we ensure our students are, first and foremost, practicing with caution and courtesy.
We offer a 7 day free trial period to anyone interested in joining. During this period, adults can try any of our adult classes in BJJ or Judo. Kids can try classes in the BJJ or Judo program corresponding with their specific age.
At the end of the trial period, you may choose to join as a member but are under no obligation to. Anyone participating in the free trial will be given a training uniform (gi). Should you decide to become a full member, the gi will be yours to keep.
